I cook daily but I wouldn’t say I am good at cooking. For our diet, mostly plant-based, it is easier if I cook and prepare my husband’s lunch and our dinner during the weekdays. Another reason I cook often is that I find cooking therapeutic. Every now and then I like to try new recipes.
Essentials
Cooking is extremely enjoyable when you have the right tools and utensils. I often do a lot of research before I purchase any cookware. My main concerns are health, safety, functionalities, and design.
Stainless Cookware
I use Fissler stainless cookware at home, a pot, and a pan. They are durable, easy to clean, and minimalistic. My mom owns a set that has lasted her for 10+ years, and she’s still using them. I avoid those that are made out of aluminum and non-stick coating. Not only they can be unsafe when in contact with heat, but they can also cause various health issues.
Le Crueset Cast Iron
Le Creuset is one of my favorite brands. I like their colors and designs. For my lifestyle, I find them less suitable (harder to take care, and heavier than stainless.) I own a rectangular grill pan from Le Creuset. I got it along with a pot as gifts, but I left the pot at my mom’s. There’s just so much you can have in a small NYC studio without resulting in clutter. The pan is great for baking and grilling. I like to use it for grilling all kinds of veggies, tempeh, or baking homemade pizza. If the pan gets too greasy or has burnt food on it, I’d pour hot water in and clean it gently with a palm brush.
