We embarked on a sensational journey to Kenya in June. It was my first time in Africa. We chose Kenya because last year I saw a video on Youtube about Kenya and its safaris, it looked breathtaking and wanted to visit for our wedding anniversary this year. After nearly a year of planning, saving, and waiting, the day has finally arrived. As a huge animal lover, this trip was extremely special and exciting for me. I can tell you that it was beyond anything I could ever imagine. Seeing the animals and landscapes in real life for the first time was such a magical moment, and experiencing safaris and Kenya as a whole was just incredible. Here are some of the things that I learned and experienced.
Beautiful Nature
The safaris were the highlights of the trip. The nature was nothing like I’ve seen before. You really feel like you’re in the Lion King movie. The plant species were very unique, the ones we would see on a National Geography cover. We could just stare at the vast plains for ever.
Animals are simply majestic
On this trip I’ve learned so much from the animals. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable, he had told us many interesting facts and traits about the animals we saw. Seeing and observing them in real life was a heartwarming experience. You could see the heard of animals being protective toward their family members, especially when there’re younger members, you want to make sure that your van doesn’t get too close. All kinds of animals have their own distinct social life, and they’re more complex than we think. Their instinct and look are all relative to their survival chances in this competitive world. I’ve always loved and admired animals, and now I have even more respect for them.
Friendliness
Kenyans were very friendly and hospitable. They always have big smiles on their face. We felt welcomed upon arrival.
Delicious food…Vegan!
Kenyan cuisine and Eastern African food in general are simply amazing. Before the trip, we were worried about being vegan…. Boy, were we wrong about that! There were plenty of delicious vegan dishes available throughout the trip. We were well-fed everyday.
Keep your car windows closed
In Nairobi we witnessed a robbery while sitting in the traffic. The car in front of ours had their windows rolled down, and the person sitting in the passenger side had something robbed by a guy who ran across the traffic. Our driver told us to always keep the windows closed.
