Two years ago my mom lost her cat- Simba. I was close to him as well, so we were both devastated. Until today we would still tear up whenever we think or talk about him. It took us a long time to get through this difficult time. Recently a friend of mine also lost her cat out of the blue. It was a sudden death, there was no sign of illness until 2 days before his death. As friends, we were also caught off guard. It really hit hard. This made me think of a book I’ve been reading, it’s about letting go.
It’s damn hard to let go. Let go of our wealth, health, youth, memories, things, and the hardest one- our loved ones. When we’re forced to let go of something/someone whom we’re not ready to, we can feel frustrated, sad, and angry. No matter how old we are, we will never be able to let go of something we value easily. This is just a fact. How to let go is a constant battle within ourselves. Time definitely can ease the pain. Perhaps, we can slowly move forward from our losses by living in the present. Cherish each and every moment with your loved ones and the things you value, and be grateful for still having them. One day we will also say good-bye to our body as an entity. How do we make the best out of it? How do we let go of the pain we endure? I guess this is one of the hardest life-long lessons.
Here are ten ways that I find helpful while going through the “letting go” process, as our minds can get messy during hardships. 1. Exercise (or yoga) to destress, 2. Meditate to focus on the present moment, 3. Express your emotions, 4. Declutter, 5. Be content and grateful, 6. Focus on what you can control, 7. Volunteer or make a donation, 8. Be yourself, 9. Try something new (I tried and now permanently on plant-based diet,) and 10. Accept and let go.
Have a lovely day!
